Day-by-Day Itinerary
Fes to Merzouga
Start heading out early from Fes and cross through the Middle Atlas Mountains, driving past alpine-style towns like Ifrane and forests where Barbary monkeys live in the cedar trees. The road takes you toward the Sahara's edge, and you'll stop at Ziz Valley for photos before pulling into Merzouga late in the evening. Get settled at your riad and get ready for the desert experience tomorrow.
Merzouga
Wake up early to watch sunrise over the dunes. After eating breakfast, you'll head into the Erg Chebbi dunes on a 4x4, then visit nomadic families to see how people live out here. Stop by Khamliya Village to catch some local Gnaoua music, then head back to rest at your riad. Later in the afternoon, ride camels out to your desert camp and enjoy traditional food with Berber musicians performing under the night sky.
Merzouga to Dades Valley
Catch the desert sunrise in Merzouga, then transfer toward Dades Valley. On the way, stop at the Rissani market for authentic Saharan goods, walk through Tinghir's old Jewish quarter, and see the red limestone cliffs of Todra Gorge. You'll reach your place in Dades Valley by late afternoon.
Dades Valley to Ouarzazate
Take a short walk in Dades Gorges, then drive off-road through M'goun Valley where you might visit a nomadic family. Pass through Kelaa M'Gouna, known for its rose gardens and festival, then follow the Road of 1000 Kasbahs and stop at the 17th-century Amridil Kasbah. Explore the palmery gardens in Skoura before arriving in Ouarzazate, the filming hub where Gladiator and Game of Thrones were shot.
Ouarzazate to Marrakech
Leave Ouarzazate and head to Ait Benhaddou Kasbah for a guided walk through this UNESCO site with its traditional clay buildings and film locations. From there, cross the High Atlas Mountains with great views and photo stops, pulling into Marrakech by late afternoon.
